Parhelion

Nothing in the sky is drawn. Each work is a simulation of sunlight falling through a cloud of ice crystals — every halo is what remains after a trillion of them have tumbled.

PARHELION plate 27 — ice halo display with the sun high overhead, nested 22° and 46° halos ringed in gold and violet against a deep blue-grey sky. PARHELION plate 34 — the sun set low in the corner of a near-black sky, a single broad white halo sweeping away into darkness. PARHELION plate 8 — tangent arcs converging to a bright point above a band of warm gold light near the horizon. PARHELION plate 11 — a sun pillar and repeating rainbow-fringed arcs rising from a golden dune horizon at low sun.
